I was recently fortunate enough to be approached to receive a trial membership to Reading Eggs - an online learning resource for children learning to read, and wanting to increase their comprehension and speed as they become more advanced. As an avid reader myself, one of the main goals I have for Ava is to learn to read at an early age and, more importantly, to learn to love it!
Being of the iPad/iPhone/etc generation, Ava is extremely used to using technology, which was a big help for us when starting the program. She's motivated to play games online for praise - it's amazing how far a simple "good job!" goes towards their self-esteem and pride at this age - and so we happily tried out the program, figuring if nothing else, she'd at least have some fun.
I can honestly say she loved it! While a portion of that was due to her interest in doing "homework" (that's what happens when you play with big kids a lot, I guess!), she is very interested in books and reading and learning letter sounds, so this was a perfectly timed opportunity for us! She loved the variety of "games" that the program used to introduce letters and their sounds, while making it feel like she wasn't doing any "work" at all! And, she picked up lessons very quickly, motivating me to set aside time for it!
On the technical end, I did lend her a hand when it came to logging into the program and getting started since she can't yet read, but once I got her where she needed to be, she was more or less able to take over with minimal assitance! Pretty impressive for three!

All in all, I'd absolutely recommend Reading Eggs for any parent who wanted to help give their child the gift of learning! I can't wait to see what she learns next!
