Over the last few weeks, Lily has been working on learning to read. Well at her age she has more so been working on understanding her letters and the way they sound. We signed up for a Free trial of Reading Eggs, it's an online reading program designed to assess your child first find out their current reading level and after cater their reading program to best suit their development level. Reading Eggs does this is a game format with an Ant that helps the kids move through the game by asking them questions and having them pick which word matches to the specific question. Since Lily is 3 you can imagine that she started in the beginning level working on letters and having sort of memory association games. Now that she has been using it for a few weeks, they have her established at 4 1/2 years (yes I am proud). In so she is now picking out words that match the letters that she is working on.
Since we haven't yet been lucky enough to get a tablet to use this on she puts on headphones and works on my laptop. So not only is she learning to read, but also how to use a mouse on the computer. I like the concept of reading eggs and it keeps Lily engaged, my only potential criticism is I wish that when she made an incorrect selection that it would be nice if every few times it would re-explain her goal, I think at her age sometimes she forgets what the goal of the exercise is, but I guess in all reality that is my job as a parent so currently that is what we do. Overall this is a super great program that really does keep her engaged and participating which is hard for a 3 year old and she really is learning. I think this program really could be a great tool in preparing for school.
